SUCCESS STORIES :

PEDAKONDURU WATERSHED

The Peda Konduru is an upland village of Kaligiri Mandal in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh, there is a lot of wasteland in this village which was wasted and uncultivable since long time.  The Watershed programme was started during 1998-99 in this village under I.W.D.P IV.  Initially due to taking of Continues Contour Trenches (C C T) three rows all along the small hillock over a distance of 8 Kms , the water table was tremendersouly  increased in the wells of both sides of the hillock, observing the increase in water table all the lands are being put in cultivation and now they are growing dry crops such as Sun Flower , Black Gram , Tobacco etc, in addition to Horticulture Plantaion.

Peda Konduru Watershed

Kaligiri Mandal

Continues Contour Trenches

Now People have gone for borewells nearly 150 Ha of land developed.  The average income is about Rs. 15,000 per Ha. The land value also increased from Rs.10,000/-  to Rs. 30,000  per Acre.  In addition to this other Soil Moisture Conservation works like Percolation Tanks, Check Dams & Farm Ponds created lot of ground water recharge and brought the wastelands into fertile lands.  Farmers of Peda Konduru Watershed are very happy and they reaped and enjoying the fruits of Watershed Development Programme.

BRAHMANAPALLI WATERSHED OF MARRIPADU MANDAL

A Check Dam was constructed across Boggeru of Brahmanapalli village of Marripadu Mandal, a drought hit Mandal of the District with an estimated cost of Rs.4.50 lakhs under Rural infrastructure development fund in the year 2002-2003.  It could impound about 29000 Cubic meters of water which have been neither to going waste in flood.  The water impounded has recharged 29 wells adjacent to Boggeru of Kampasamudram and Brahmanapalli villages.  Since September, 2002 there is about 4 to 6 meters of water in the wells and these wells could provide water for nearly 140 acres of irrigated dry crop and 6 acres of Chillies and Sunflower crops.

CHECK  DAM  ACROSS  BOGGERU  VAGU

Due to seepage water in the stream the Check Dam is full for about 8 months.  But for this Check Dam all this 145 acres of land would have been irrigaated during this year.

HANUMA KONDA PALEM VAGU CHECK DAM A LIFE SUPPORTING STRUCTURE

We belongs to Chinakraka Village of Jaladanki Mandal. Under IWDP-III scheme, the Chinkraka Watershed was sanctioned.during 1998-99. So far constructions were completed in respect of 3 Check Dams 4 Percolation Tanks and 2 Farm Ponds.

The following benefits were secured by the construction of Check Dams & Percolation Tanks etc., to our village :

The Water level in the Wells and Bore wells is increased consequently the barren lands have become cultivable lands.

Even in drought period also, the Dry Crops viz., Green Grams, Bengal Grams and other Dry Crops are giving good yields.

Erosions in the fields have been arrested to the maximum extent and fertile lands, was increased several times by increasing the Ground water level, the Ryots are able to raise the Dry Crops in their fields.

The above works have been successfully completed with the co-operation of the villages and as per the Resolution passed by the Watershed Committees. By the construction of Water Harvesting Structures our village all the Ryots are happy.

PYDERU CHECK DAM AND FARM PONDS SAVED OUR DRY CROPS

We belongs to Chennur village of Dagadarthi Mandal the Government have sanctioned Chennur Watershed under integrated Wasteland Development Programme of phase III in 1998-1999.  The said Watershed covers the villages of Chennur, Rangasamudram and Siddareddipalem.  There is one Pyderu Vagu near lower edge of the village.  So far, 3 Check Dams have been constructed. By the constructions of these Check Dams, the fields existing on both sides have grown up yielding good results.  By the construction of the Check Dams, the Water table in these areas is also increased and the water supply in the Bores and Wells is sufficiently increased without interruption. The area of the cultivated extent is also increased Ryots are developed financially by getting the yields from the Dry Crops. The Dry lands also changed into cultivable lands and benefitting the small and marginal farmers.

Lemon Garden with Black Gram inter - crop.

We the Ryots are happily leading the life by getting benefits of Watershed schemes and we are giving utmost cooperation to the watershed committees for their successful achievements.

BY CONSTRUCTION OF CHECK DAMS GROUND WATER LEVEL IS INCREASED IN GUDAVALLUR

We belongs to Gudavalur village of  Kondapuram Mandal in the year 1999-2000 under IWDP-IV, Gudavalur Watershed was sanctioned.

So far under the above scheme 2 Percolation Tanks 5 Check Dams 6 Rock Fill Dams, 40 Sunken Ponds were taken up for water construction. The said watershed works have been completed with a total expenditure of Rs.9,56,000/- duly conserving water in an area of 48500 cubic meters with the cooperation of the beneficiaries.

In the village, 2 Percolation tanks were formed and by this Percolation Tanks, the barren lands are changed into fertile lands in an extent of 50 acres. The small farmers and marginal farmers have raised Dry Crops like Bengal gram, Green gram and other Dry Crops etc.,  Now the ground water level is increased from 3 feet to 4 feets in the neibouring wells.

In olden days, the Ryots have to carry water earthen pots for watering Dry crops from the distant places. Due to this the crops could not get water in time and getting crop diseases yields less quantities.  By the formation of Percolation Tanks and due to the sprinkling of pesticides in time, the crop yielding is increased.

Due the formation of Percolation Tanks the Ryots have raised crops in 200 acres successfully.

In our village, we can say that by the construction of the watersheds, the Ground water level is increased exhaustively.

BY CHITTEPALLI WATERSHED OUR BARREN LANDS BECAME GOLDEN LANDS

We belongs the Chittepalli Watershed of Podalakur Mandal.  In the year 1998, under IWDP scheme. We have taken up the Watershed works.  In those days, the Dry land in an extent of 1200 acres was with full of thory bushes. It has Black Cotton Soil.  The said land was barren for the last 15 - 20 years and it was with full of scrub growths.

In Chittepalli Watershed, 3 Check Dams and One Percolation Tank were constructed.  By the formation of Percolation Tanks , the water level in the Drinking water Bore wells is not all decreased.

In the Chittepalli Watershed, the Water level is increased satisfactorily.  All the works have completed with the cooperation of the Watershed Committee members and after their approval in Committee Meeting.

WATER  LEVELS  RAISED  BY  WATERSHED  PROGRAMME - KARJIMEDU  WATERSHED.

In Arimenipadu Watershed nearly 1.20 lack cubic meters of rain water have been harvested by 10 Check Dams constructed under this programme.

Nearly 380 acres of Acid Lime and Guava Gardens are planted under this scheme.

4 New Percolation Tanks, 6 Old Percolation Tanks renewed and 10 New Check Dams constructed.

PERCOLATION TANK AT GURRAM KONDA

Continues Contour Trenches have been dug around the Arimenipadu hill and rain water flows from this area to Karjimedu Tank.

Villagers and Watershed Committee are worked together and participated in all communal watershed works by contributing Watershed Development Fund, Srama Danam.

BOON  TO THE FARMERS BODIPADU WATERSHED

Bodipadu lies 2 Km away from Chejerla the Mandal Headquarters.  The Bodipadu Watershed Sanctioned under APHM & ECRP project with Physical Target of 500 Ha and Fianancial Target of Rs. 20.00 lakhs.

A Mini Percolation Tank formed at Reddygunta vagu exclusively for flooded  water with an amount of Rs. 1.60 lakhs benefiting the farmers.

Check Dam Constructed in Bodipadu Village

Under this programme 4 Percolation Tanks are formed and 4 Check Dams constructed.

Farmers of the Bodipadu Watershed have reaped this programme as A BOON TO THE FARMERS
